Go Natural
Brides who want a rustic romantic look for their wedding flowers, wedding bouquets, buttonholes, table centres and floral displays should pick a more natural style!
If you want the ‘just picked’ from the garden boho look then start by finding out which flowers are in season around the date of your wedding before deciding on what you want. The seasonal flowers can then help inspire you!
2. Know which Wedding Flowers are in season around your wedding date!
Spring (March/April/May): Muscari, sweet williams, Savlia, anemone, lilac, tulip, azalea, Ranunculus
Summer (June/July/August): Zinnia (bright blooms), Cosmos, Cornflowers, Salvia, Astilbe, Dahlias (with a variety of colours and British grown)
Autumn (September/October/November): Dahlias, Cosmos (Brownish reds matching gold colour themes), Wax flower, Ranunculus
Winter (Dec/Jan/Feb): Genista, Wax flower, Viburnum, Ranunculus
With a variety of flowers being available all year around such as Aster, Hypericum, Limonium, the whispy look of Ammi and Trachelium, the daisy look of Tanacetum, Pink spray carnations are a perfect vintage wedding flower option and of course the all-time favourite; Roses are available in a huge variety of colours.
Autumn is the perfect time for an informal bohemian style, think berries, orange autumn leaves, burgundy, yellows, burnt oranges, but if you’re not getting married in autumn there are plenty of other options for a woodland styled look!
3. Add in Foliage, feathers, dried flowers and more!
Any flowers paired with some great foliage such as asparagus, eucalpytus and fern, will create the look of a vintage/boho theme even with some added feathers, pheasant tails, dried wheat, lavender, succulents and Thlaspi.
You can also add touches to bind flowers together such as long trailing silk ribbons, twine, lace, hessian and raffia
4. Involve your florist early!
Once you know what seasonal flowers you can ask your florist for examples of bridal bouquets and floral arrangements, look on Pinterest. Involve your florist early on and they can help guide you from the beginning! They can help release your vision!
5. Flower Crowns - a necessity for every boho bridal queen!
There's a flower crown to suit every wedding theme whether it be woodland, beach, tipi or a church, from something simpler like foliage and gypsophila to a bold and bright bohemian look, think big blooms such as peonies and mix with some astilbe, waxflower and eucalyptus foliage and berries, this would look amazing with some soft waves and a veil.
Or for a minimalist Boho design, why not go for a cluster of blooms such as a rose, ranunculus, and anemones on a crown of foliage with some soft curls pinned up and loose.
6. Display hanging flowers!
Hanging flowers for a vintage / boho theme can vary from being one of the 'little things' such as Roses in bud vases, or gypsophila in light bulbs suspended from trees or windows and can double up as gifts for your guests from your big day! Or why not have foliage draped and wrapped around stairways, the roof structure of a marquee or a hoop suspended over the entrance to a tipi covered in foliage with intermingling flowers.
7. Oversized Bridal Bouquets!
The oversized and loose the better, think ferns, asparagus (wavy loose foliages) and big bold/pastel blooms and smaller wispy flowers intermingled into the design finished off with some gorgeous colour matching silk trailing ribbons.
8. Use recycled bottles as your center pieces for a Bohemian Inspired Wedding!
Glass jars and milk bottles with flowers in for centerpieces are a great choice for a Boho inspired wedding!
9. Choose Ornate Furniture & Candelabras center pieces for a vintage-inspired wedding!
For a more vintage feel why not choose some ornate candelabras with floral centrepieces and leaves intertwined! These also give a warm feel to the room! Or an array of foliage garlands with added colour themed flowers will adorn your table layout.
10. Choosing the right colours, flowers for a Vintage Wedding Bouquets & Floral displays!
Colours suited to vintage wedding bouquets are pastels; blush pinks, mauve, light blues, creams with a mixture of foliage's These colours can also be perfectly matched with rich purples and reds too! Think Roses, stocks, Astrantia, Limonium, cala lilies designed with eucalyptus foliage and Senecio
Even a simple Lilly bouquet gives an art deco vintage feel to a wedding theme and a bouquet of gypsophila is hugely popular for bridesmaids bouquets!
Vintage wedding bouquets take on a variety of styles from loose and oversized to a domed structure finished with trailing ribbons/ lace or wrapped with pins... some Brides like to add a finishing touch to their bouquet with a family memento.
Why not go simple and have a Galanthus bouquet, simple but very popular. You can also never go wrong with a red rose bouquet, lavender bouquets too for a slash of bold colour!
